Getting started

QuillArk keeps your writing in ordinary files on your own computer. Nothing is uploaded anywhere, and nothing needs an account.

The first thing you chose

When you first opened QuillArk you picked a folder for your books. Inside it, QuillArk created a folder called Books. Every project you make lives there as a folder you can open in your file manager at any time.

You can change that location later in Settings → Files. QuillArk will never move your existing projects without asking.

Making something

From Home, choose New project. The wizard asks for a title, whether you are writing one book or a series, and which kind of writing it is. Everything it sets up can be changed afterwards, so pick whatever is closest and get on with writing.

If you would rather look around first, choose Create example project. It fills a project with invented material so you can see how everything fits together. You can move it to Trash whenever you are done with it.

Where things are

• Manuscript is your book: parts, chapters and scenes.
• Story holds arcs, plot threads and outlines.
• World holds characters, locations and everything else you invent.
• Research and Brain Dumps are for notes.
• Publishing turns the manuscript into a finished file.
