A book to learn from. A place to practice. A way to check understanding.

Self-paced does not mean unsupported.

At kindergarten entry, an adult reads aloud, models the task, and supplies safe materials. Increasing independence is part of the proposed progression. A learner may pause, revisit an explanation, or demonstrate a skill through an appropriate accessible method.

Later sections are planned to include cumulative review, increasingly complex applications, source analysis, and independent projects. Grade labels organize the sequence; demonstrated prerequisites guide placement.

A factual voice, with room for judgment.

Explanations use a third-person voice. Documented facts and observations are separated from estimates, scientific models, interpretations, and opinions. The text identifies uncertainty and the limits of evidence. Learners may form their own judgments; assessments evaluate evidence and reasoning rather than agreement with an author’s opinion.

Fiction and invented examples are explicitly identified. The Hero Academy provides the visual and thematic setting; its characters are not treated as historical evidence or subject authorities.

Values remain visible and honestly named.

The Academy is rooted in the author’s family values and Latter-day Saint faith. Academic lessons are secular and non-denominational. Honesty, responsibility, respect, service, perseverance, and agency are declared educational values, not presented as scientific findings. Family religious discussion is optional and ungraded. The curriculum does not claim church endorsement.

Scientific topics are explained using scientific evidence. Historical religious beliefs are attributed to their adherents and context. This distinction helps families consider evidence and belief without misrepresenting either.
